Hima Das was born to farmers, Ronjit Das and Jonali Das, in Kandhulimari village, Assam. Her father hails from the Assamese Kaibarta community.

1. Hima Das was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2018, the first-ever to be given to a sportsperson from Assam.
2. Hima Das became the first-ever youth ambassador of UNICEF India in 2018.
3. While Bhogeswar Baruah is the only other athlete from Assam to win a gold medal at an international event, Hima is the only one to win three gold medals at such events.
4. The Government of Assam appointed her as their sports brand ambassador in 2018.
5. In 2021, Hima Das was appointed as a civil servant in Assam under the Deputy Superintendent of Police, but without taking the Combined Competitive Examination.This was accomplished by her direct entry into the Assam Police Service cadre, which the Assam Public Service Commission executed.
